Possible new octopus species found near Hawaii, scientists say
Scientists say they have discovered what might be a new species of octopus while searching the Pacific Ocean floor near the Hawaiian Islands. On Feb. 27, a team found a small octopus at a depth of about 2.5 miles in the ocean near Necker Island, said Michael Vecchione of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. The octopus did not have fins and all of its suckers were in one row on each arm, Vecchione said. The octopus "did not seem very muscular" and was light colored, he said."This..

99-million-year-old lizards in amber: A dazzling diversity display
Some 99 million years ago, 12 unsuspecting lizards stepped or fell into sticky tree resin and couldn't tear themselves loose in the forests of what is now Myanmar. Over time that resin fossilized into amber, preserving the little lizards for scientists to study later. Now, researchers are looking to these prehistoric golden chunks to better understand how lizards have evolved. There was a diverse population of lizards living in the region at the time, the scientists report in a new paper publish..

This new robot skin can glow, stretch – and walk
Most electronics can't handle pressure, and even wearable tech does not respond well when stretched to 500 percent of its original size. A new, cell phone-sized artificial skin developed at Cornell University, however, not only stretches under pressure, but also glows all the brighter."It’s actually much, much, much more stretchable than human skin or octopus skin," says Chris Larson, a doctoral candidate and researcher in Cornell's Organic Robotics Lab. "In terms of texture, it’s actually more..

'Ghostlike' octopus found in Pacific may belong to new species
NEW YORK An underwater research craft has spotted a "ghostlike" octopus that appears to belong to a previously unknown species on the ocean floor near Hawaii, a discovery that highlights how little is known about the deep sea, a U.S. zoologist said on Saturday. The milky white creature, nicknamed "Casper the Friendly Ghost" by Twitter users, was caught on cameras mounted on the craft as it explored the Pacific Ocean at a depth of 4,290 meters, or about 2-1/2 miles, the National Oceanic and Atm..

At a press conference yesterday, the astronaut said: "It worked great. I was really surprised. We messed around with it for, like, two hours, and immediately, I sensed, this is a capability we could use right now." Unlike virtual reality headsets, such as t..

AI version of Trump can mimic The Donald
It would appear that Donald Trump is edging closer and closer to bagging the Republican presidential nomination for the 2016 elections. And with that said, it’s no surprise that the Twitterbot called DeepDrumpf has just been launched, using artificial intelligence to generate tweets that mimic those that “The Donald” would normally post. And you better believe that they’re pretty accurate, considering Trump’s penchant for outlandish, unorthodox statements. Want a sample of the DeepDrumpf bot’..
